Settings

Settings apply to the selected location and are shared with other users of that location. Open a Location Page, sign in, and click the gear button in the navigation bar. On mobile, open the navigation menu and select Location Settings.

The settings button is available to users with write access to the location and to superusers. Some changes require additional permissions: the current backend requires superuser access to edit location information, visualization options, tracking ID lifetime and Danger Zone settings. Opening the settings dialog does not by itself grant permission to save every option.

Expand a section to edit its options. Most fields save individually: sliders save when released, and text fields use their edit control or save when you leave the field. There is no single Save button for the entire dialog. Where the confirmation message asks you to refresh with F5, reload the page to activate the saved settings. The speed unit changes immediately.

Info

General

  • Name identifies the location on Home and on the Location page.
  • Description provides context about the location or dataset and is displayed above the map.
  • Organization Id, Organization Name and Location Id can be copied. The Location Id is also used in GraphQL queries.

Default Time

Choose which time view opens when visiting the location without an explicit time range:

ModeBehaviour
DefaultUse live data when available; otherwise jump to the latest available data.
LiveAlways start in live mode. Useful for locations receiving continuous data.
Time RangeAlways open a fixed historical interval. Useful for demonstrating a recorded scenario.

For Time Range, enter From and To as YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS in your browser's local time. The fields save when you leave them. When choosing Time Range for the first time, the current URL's time range is used if available; otherwise the fields start with the last 12 minutes. A link containing an explicit time range can open a different interval from this saved default.

Unit of speed

Choose m/s, km/h or mph. The unit applies immediately to speed values in popups, legends and the histogram and is saved as the location default. GraphQL fields such as velocityMs continue to return metres per second. This setting changes the displayed units; playback speed is selected beside Play/Pause on the map.

Logo and thumbnail

Use Upload PNG to add a Logo for Location page or a Thumbnail for Home. Use the corresponding Delete button to remove an image. Without a thumbnail, Home displays a map preview. Refresh the page after uploading or removing an image to see the result.

Visualization

These options control object markers, the short trajectory trails and the map's initial view.

OptionEffect
Marker — SizeMarker size in pixels, from 1 to 15. Larger markers are easier to select; smaller ones reduce overlap in dense traffic.
Marker — Retention ThresholdHow long markers remain visible after their last update. The slider offers intervals from 0 seconds to 60 minutes. Longer intervals retain objects during gaps between measurements. This affects display only and does not delete stored data.
Trajectory — WidthWidth of trajectory lines in pixels, from 1 to 15.
Trajectory — Max DurationLength of the visible trajectory trail in time, from 1 to 60 seconds. Longer trails show more of an object's recent movement.
Map — ZoomInitial zoom level, from 1 to 20. Higher values show a smaller area with more detail.

Release a slider to save its value, then refresh the page as prompted.

Store Current Toggles

First adjust the map layers on the Location page, then open Settings → Visualization and click Store Current Toggles. This saves the current layer selection as the default for the location, including aerial imagery, buildings, the custom map, object styles, events, sensors, geofencing and the selected Traffic research mode.

The button saves layer choices separately from the zoom and other visualization sliders. It does not save Follow me, Ego view or playback speed. If no toggle state is available, open the map and adjust its toggles before trying again.

Custom Map

Upload a GeoJSON overlay to show additional details such as lanes, sidewalks or intersection geometry alongside the traffic data.

  1. Click Browse and select a .geojson or .json file containing valid GeoJSON with a top-level type field. The application accepts files up to 20 MiB.
  2. Click Upload Map. The uploaded map appears in Existing Maps, and the application attempts to make it active.
  3. To switch between uploaded maps, click Set Active beside the desired map. Refresh the page after activation.
  4. Enable Map style → Custom map on the Location page to display the overlay. Use Store Current Toggles if it should be visible by default.

The table shows each map's name, ID and upload time. Delete removes that uploaded map from the location.

Under Appearance, set Transparency (Fill Opacity) between 0 and 1; lower values make the overlay more transparent. Set Line Width between 0 and 5 pixels. Under Colors, choose colors for lines, driving lanes, biking lanes, sidewalk lanes, non-driving lanes and other polygons. Click a color swatch or enter a hexadecimal value in #RRGGBB or #RRGGBBAA format; the final two digits specify alpha. Color text fields save when you leave them with a valid value.

MQTT

New Source

Copy the MQTT Ingest Topic, then click Generate MQTT Ingest Credentials to obtain an MQTT User and MQTT Password for a data source. Append a source name to the ingest topic, for example <ingest-topic>/camera, so incoming measurements can be associated with that source.

See New Source for connection examples and the JSON or Protobuf documentation for payload formats.

Tracking ID Lifetime

This setting defines the maximum gap between measurements that can belong to the same tracked object. If the gap exceeds the lifetime, a later measurement with the same tracking ID creates a new traffic object. The slider ranges from 10 seconds to 1 hour and saves when released.

For example, a short lifetime can separate reused tracking IDs, while a longer lifetime can keep a trajectory together when a source reports infrequently. This changes how incoming measurements are grouped; it does not set how long data is stored.

GPS Live Tracking

Click Open GPS Tracker to open the location's GPS tracking page. It supports sending your device's current position once with Send Current Position, or continuously with Start Auto-Send. Allow location access in the browser. Use Stop Auto-Send to stop continuous publishing. The tracker also provides a QR code for opening the configured session on a smartphone.

Auto-Send requires the tracker tab to stay open and visible. Turning the screen off or switching apps pauses browser-based tracking. Published positions are stored in the location and can be viewed by users with access to it.

User Management

The member table lists the location's users by ID, name and email. As a superuser, search for an existing account under Select User, choose it, and click Add User to grant it read and write access to the location. The member table reloads after the user is added.

This section may be disabled for your account. It provides member listing and adding users; it does not offer role selection or a Remove User action.

Danger Zone

Change Visibility

Click Make public or Make private to change whether the location can be viewed without signing in. Confirm by entering PUBLIC or PRIVATE, as requested by the dialog. The page reloads after the change. A private location requires users to have access; making a location public allows anonymous viewing of its data.

Data Retention

Enable Data Retention, select the number of days with the slider or numeric field, then click Apply. Confirm by entering the location name. Data older than the selected period is deleted automatically for traffic objects, sensor data and events.

Clear Enable and click Apply to remove the location retention policy. This stops that policy from deleting further data; it does not restore data already removed. Raw entity measurements also have a separate, system-wide retention policy, so disabling location retention does not disable that policy.

Delete Location

Click Delete under Delete Location, then enter the location name in the confirmation dialog. Deleting a location removes it and its associated data permanently and returns you to Home.

Deletion can be refused when the location contains too much data. In that case, reduce the data using a shorter retention period, wait for the retention service to run, and retry deletion.
