Timeline

  • Start and end time can be set freely. Long durations (> 7 days) may cause slow loading of the histogram.
  • Single click on a histogram bar sets the cursor to that time. Double click also updates the boundaries.
  • The Play button animates the cursor through the selected time range. The Live button switches to real-time mode.
  • For historical data, the speed selector beside Play/Pause offers speeds from 0.25× to 5×, with 1× as normal playback. Entity and sensor playback use the same speed. The speed selector is hidden in live mode.
  • Events are shown below the histogram. Clicking one jumps to that time.
  • To create an event, hover over the timeline cursor and click Create Event.

Pop up

Click or tap a road user to open its popup. The heading identifies the object class, and the colored dot normally matches its class color. When a cluster is assigned, the dot can use the cluster color instead. Values depend on the available data and whether you are viewing live or historical traffic; unavailable fields are omitted. The current Speed and Accel rows are also omitted when their values are zero.

Current object values

ValueMeaning
Entity IDThe stored object's UUID, shown in shortened form for historical data. copies the complete ID.
Tracking IDThe identifier used to track the object in the incoming source data. Unlike the Entity ID, it can be reused by a source.
SourceThe source that supplied the measurements, such as a camera or GPS tracker.
TimeTimestamp of the displayed object measurement, shown in your browser's local time.
HeadingDirection of movement in degrees using the mathematical convention: 0° points east and positive angles turn counter-clockwise towards north. Negative angles are possible.
SpeedSpeed at the displayed point, in the location's selected unit: m/s, km/h or mph.
AccelAcceleration in m/s². Positive values indicate increasing speed; negative values indicate slowing down.
ClusterThe assigned trajectory cluster when cluster analysis is available. Cluster −1 marks an outlier.

An asterisk (*) marks a value calculated from movement rather than supplied directly by the source.

Historical Details

For historical objects, expand Details to see statistics for the stored object trajectory. These describe the object's track, rather than just the current playback position.

ValueMeaning
First seen / Last seenStart and end timestamps of the stored track.
DurationTime between First seen and Last seen, displayed in seconds or minutes.
DistanceTotal distance along the stored trajectory, in metres.
CountNumber of measurements associated with the object, not the number of road users.
Length (med), Width (med), Height (med)Median object dimensions across the available measurements, in metres. These help describe the object's size for the 3D view.
ConfidenceMean class confidence across the available measurements. It reflects the source's classification confidence, not a probability calculated by the map.
Speed p05 / p50 / p95The 5th, 50th and 95th percentiles of the object's speed measurements, in the selected speed unit. p50 is the median; p05 and p95 describe the lower and upper parts of the distribution.
Accel p05 / p50 / p95The corresponding acceleration percentiles, in m/s². They help distinguish typical motion from stronger braking or acceleration.

Use or the – button in the popup's top-right corner to make it transparent or minimise the entity details. A minimised popup retains key values in a bar at the bottom of the map; Maximize reopens the details. These controls also work in Ego view.

The Copy data (JSON) menu offers Copy smoothed data for the currently loaded object data. For historical entities, Copy full data loads and copies the full entity record with its raw measurements. The copy buttons beside shortened IDs copy their complete values.

Other map popups

  • Traffic research trajectories: Clicking a line highlights the selected segment and shows its Entity ID, class or cluster, time interval and track duration. Speed and acceleration modes also show the selected segment's value and its category according to the legend thresholds.
  • Sensors: Sensor ID identifies the stored sensor; Sensing ID is its source identifier. Location is shown as latitude, longitude, and Time is the reading timestamp. Traffic lights show their Status, detector loops show the reported Count and a Count History chart, and weather stations show Temperature in °C.
  • Events: The popup shows the event name, Event ID, Class, Start Time, End Time, Source and Radius in metres, plus additional event attributes when supplied. Missing values are shown as a dash.
  • Geofences: Selecting a fence shows crossing counts by class and each class's percentage of the crossings in the selected time range.

Follow me and Ego View

Click or tap a road user on the map to open its details. The popup offers two camera modes:

  • Follow me smoothly follows the selected object's position. You can still zoom, rotate and tilt the map. If you drag the map, the new offset from the object is retained as it moves. Click Stop following or press Esc to leave this mode.
  • Ego view places the camera at the front of the object, looking in its direction of movement. The camera follows its position and heading, and its details appear in a fixed panel. Click Exit ego view or press Esc to return to the map with the previous zoom, rotation and tilt.

Map Controls

Use the fullscreen button in the bottom-right corner to expand the map. Press Esc or click the button again to exit fullscreen.

Map navigation: zoom in, zoom out and compass

Use these controls in the bottom-right corner to zoom and reset the compass. opens help with instructions for mouse, Mac and touch input.

On a Mac, use Control (⌃) + click to open the event/geofence menu and Control + click and drag to rotate or tilt the map. Control is different from Command (⌘).

On a touchscreen, tap to select an object, drag with one finger to move the map, pinch to zoom, twist with two fingers to rotate, and drag two fingers up or down to tilt. Press and hold on the map opens the event/geofence menu; moving your finger or adding another finger cancels the long press. Creating events requires maintainer or owner permission for the location.

Map Layer Toggles

Use the buttons in the top-right corner to open the groups below. To keep a layer selection for future visits, go to use Settings → Visualization → Store Current Toggles.

Map style

  • Aerial imagery replaces the street basemap with satellite or aerial photography. The map uses ArcGIS imagery, with Bayern DOP20 aerial imagery in Bavaria. Availability depends on the deployment's imagery configuration.
  • Transparent buildings keeps traffic models, boxes, circles and trajectories visible through buildings. Solid buildings hides traffic behind opaque buildings. These modes are mutually exclusive; turn off the active mode to hide buildings entirely.
  • Custom map shows the location's active GeoJSON overlay, for example detailed lane or sidewalk geometry. Upload, select and style the overlay under Settings → Custom Map. This option needs an uploaded map to display anything.

Traffic objects style

  • 3D Boxes draws objects using their length, width, height and heading. Class-specific default dimensions are used when measurements are unavailable.
  • 3D Models represents known classes with vehicle and character models. Vehicle variants use available dimensions or stable random choices. Pedestrians and cyclists animate according to speed and pause with playback. Unknown or implausibly sized objects, and models still loading, use boxes.
  • Entity colouring switches models between class/analysis colours and realistic vehicle and clothing colours. Boxes and circles are always coloured; clicking the greyed control explains this restriction. Choose the coloured surfaces under Settings → Visualization.
  • Smoothed trajectories switches object movement and trails between raw and smoothed trajectories. Smoothing reduces positional jitter and makes playback easier to follow; raw trajectories are useful for inspecting the original measurements.

3D Boxes and 3D Models are mutually exclusive; turning off the active option leaves circle markers. Activating Cluster, Speed or Acceleration enables Entity colouring, which can then be turned off while analysis remains active. Leaving these analyses restores the previous colouring preference, including after switching between them.

Map features

  • Events shows event markers for the selected interval. Click a marker for its details. Events can be created through the frontend, MQTT or GraphQL; creating an event in the frontend requires maintainer or owner access.
  • Traffic lights shows the positions and reported states of traffic lights, including pedestrian lights. Their colors reflect the sensor data at the displayed time.
  • Detector loops shows loop detectors. Click one to inspect its reported count and count history. Traffic light and detector loop data can be supplied through MQTT.
  • Geofencing shows counting lines and polygons. Select a fence to inspect crossings and use its crossing data in the histogram. To create a line or polygon, open the map context menu with right-click, Control + click on a Mac, or a long press on touch. Depending on your permissions, fences can be saved or used temporarily for the current session.

Traffic research

  • Draw current trajectories shows recent trails in entity colours. Width and maximum duration are configured under Settings → Visualization. Realistic trail colours persist after an entity leaves the map.
  • Draw all trajectories shows full paths for the selected time range, using class colours when no analysis or only Density is active.

Enabling either trajectory option turns the other off; both can be off. Select one analysis mode at a time; clicking the active mode again turns it off. Changing analysis leaves the trajectory display choice unchanged. Analyses use the selected time range and class filters.

  • Density: A heatmap of trajectory density, helping identify heavily used areas and movement corridors.
  • Speed: Entities and trajectory segments coloured by speed. Use the legend to adjust category boundaries and show or hide value categories.
  • Acceleration: Entities and trajectory segments coloured by acceleration, revealing braking and increasing speed. Use the legend to adjust category boundaries and show or hide value categories.
  • Cluster: Entities and trajectories coloured by similar movement patterns, helping distinguish recurring routes and manoeuvres. Choose a cluster count from 2 to 49 and apply it with , or use to suggest a count automatically. Use the colored cluster buttons to show or hide individual clusters. Outliers are marked −1 and have their own visibility button when present. Cluster IDs are local to the current analysis and can change when the time range or settings change.

Entity Class Toggles

Entity class toggles for pedestrians, e-scooters, motorcycles, bicycles, cars, buses, trucks and unknown objects

The buttons in the top-left corner show or hide entity classes: Pedestrian, Bicycle, Car, Motorcycle, Bus, Truck, E-Scooter and Unknown. A colored button means the class is enabled; a grey button means it is hidden. Hover over a button to see its class name and whether data is available in the selected time range.

When a geofence is selected, classes with no crossings during the selected time range are marked with diagonal lines and a faded icon. The tooltip reads no crossings in selected geofence. This marking does not hide or disable the class. Its objects can still appear elsewhere on the map, and the class button remains selectable. Clear the geofence selection to remove the marking.

Settings

Click in the navigation bar to configure the location. On mobile, select Location Settings in the navigation menu. The button requires maintainer or owner access to the location, directly or through organization or overall permissions. See Settings for more details.
